Having amazing pictures in your Poshmark listings is one of the most important parts of creating a great listing. But don’t fret - read these simple tips to make the most out of your photos!
Tip 1: Style your Covershot.
Your Covershot is the very first photo in your listing - and first impressions definitely count, so be sure to wow potential buyers by including a gorgeous Covershot in your listings! We find that if you wear your item in your Covershot to show how you would style it, the chances of selling your item are much greater.
Tip 2: Pick the right setting.
Where you take your pictures is as equally important when creating a listing. You want to be sure that what you’re trying to sell is what stands out - not the pile of clothes sitting on your bed in the background!
If you’re taking your photos at home, we suggest picking an area of your house that’s clean, free of clutter, and has natural light beaming through.
Tip 3: Take clear, bright photos.
One of the most-convenient things about Poshmark is that you can snap the photos for your listing using your phone (easy-breezy!). And while the camera on the phone is pretty amazing, the lighting and coloring of the photos can sometimes be less-than-ideal depending on the environment in which the photos are taken.
This is why snapping your photos in natural lighting is preferred, but we know that’s not always possible. Luckily, there are plenty of apps that will quickly correct the exposure and tone of your pictures, such as Snapseed, Photoshop Express, VSCO Cam, and Picture Effect Magic.
Tip 4: Include a variety of photos.
We strongly encourage including as many photos of the item you are trying to sell to give potential buyers a better idea of what the item really looks like from multiple angles. Some ideas of the photos to include in your listings are:
This week the Community Team is bringing you a Posh Tip: how to have a listing party!
We all take selfie cover shots and have a time of day to take our photos for creating listings, but having friends over and helping each other out is twice the fun! Read our tips for hosting a listing party of your very own — we’re certain you’re going to want to make this a regular occurrence!
1. Designate a place with good lighting.
Natural lighting is your best friend; find a spot by a window or even better, outside where there’s a mixture of direct light and shade.
2. Have mirrors on hand.
It’s always a good idea to have mirrors handy (full length is nice!) so that you and your guests can style the garment and primp before a photo. Everyone likes to look their best, right?
3. Have different rooms and spaces as changing rooms for your guests.
Privacy to change in and out of pieces will allow your guests to feel comfortable around others. It also adds an element of surprise; you and your friends can dress up an outfit and then emerge from the dressing room with pizzazz!
4. Provide snacks and refreshments.
Having something to nibble or sip on is a fantastic way to break the ice and get the party started. Have wine and cheese, smoothies and veggies, or coffee and pastries ready for your guests; they’ll appreciate it!
This week’s Posh Tip will help you add a special touch to your photos before you create a listing. We’re going to share with you all a few of our favorite apps that we use frequently to beautify our photos.
Hudson, Valencia, Hefe…if you want saturated hues and a variety of tones and highlights, consider popping your photo into one Instagram’s filters. We love how simple it is to enhance your photo’s appearance with just a couple of taps on their filter wheel. Don’t forget to use the blur tool to create some fun depth of field.
Ever wonder how people add that hint of blur to their photos in the corners or along the sides? We love using Picfx when we’re adding ‘Bokeh’ to our photos. These clusters of background lights come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors - we love them all! This filter is a
quick and simple way to make your photos pop. Picfx also has a large library of color filters that can be subtly adjusted with the slider on the right hand side of the frame as well as layered with multiple filter effects.
We’ve all been there: there are multiple photos that you want to share but you’ve only got 4 frames on Poshmark to utilize. Enter PicFrame. Choose from a multitude of ratios to adjust the frames and then choose what type of frame you’d like to use for your photos (you can add up to 9). This is a great app to use when you have many angles you’d like to highlight for your listing.
Enjoy! Can’t wait to continue to see your gorgeous covershots and listings!
Here are five tips that will help get your listings marked with a red SOLD banner:
Tip #1: Style Your Covershot.
Your Covershot is the very first photo of your listing and remember, first impressions count! Make sure your Covershot is well-lit and clear. Also, wear your item and style it your way. Listings with Covershots like these tend to sell much faster!
See additional tips on taking a great Covershot.
Tip #2: Describe Your Items Accurately.
Take time to accurately describe the item you are listing. Include info such as the condition the item is in, if it runs true to size, and tips on what to pair it with. Answering your potential buyers’ questions up front will help them decide to hit that “Buy” button just a bit faster.
Tip #3: Attend Posh Parties.
Posh Parties are shopping events in the app where hundreds of thousands of users log in at the same time to shop and share listings. Build an audience by sharing your listings at a Party.
Tip #4: Be Responsive.
When someone posts a question about your listing, respond promptly. If you wait too long, your potential buyer could lose interest. Remember, your newsfeed is your friend!
Tip #5: Engage with Others.
Be active in the Poshmark community. Find others with the same shoe size and follow them. Share listings that you think are fantastic. Trust us when we say that the love you help spread will get returned…and could result in a sale!
Next Posh Tip: What is a Posh Party?
You’ve taken the time to create your listings, now you’re wondering, "how am I going to get my items sold?” Not to worry ladies! Here are just a few Posh Tips on how we can move your inventory and get you one step closer to getting that Rebecca Minkoff bag you’ve been eyeing!
Posh Tip #1: Take some time to create a beautiful listing. Let’s face it ladies, no one really wants to see a dark photo of a wrinkled skirt on a messy bed. Take the time to iron your item if it’s wrinkled, clear out the space where you’re photographing, and preferably, put the item on if you can. People generally want to see what the item looks like on to see the fit, cut, etc, so that always helps!
Posh Tip #2: Attend Posh Parties! This is a great way of promoting your listings to a wider audience. Want to sell that polka dot dress? Attend the “Prints & Patterns” posh party and share your listing then. Just make sure you stick to theme!
Posh Tip #3: Be Responsive! Someone is ready to buy your Steve Madden Booties. But as a last step before making the purchase, the user asks you to take a pic of the bottom of the shoes to see the wear. Try to be as responsive as possible. Can’t take the photo until tonight when you’re off from work? Let them know! This will not only potentially create a sale for you, but you’ll also get a happy user who will be appreciative of your responsiveness and possibly be a repeat customer!
Happy Poshmarking! And here’s to getting your listing(s) with a red SOLD banner on it! ;)
Creating an awesome Covershot is always helpful in getting your item sold. Here are three different types of Covershots we’ve seen work well within the community!
1) The “I’m so lucky to have a photog help me” Covershot. If you’re fortunate enough to be this person, here’s our Posh Tip: Go outdoors! Lighting is so crucial to getting a good photo. Best time to take a pic outside? Not in the morning when it’s bright and the sun in your eyes. The best time is actually when the sun is just about to set. Below are some great examples of some users who’ve taken their Covershots outdoors.
2) Next, we have the “DIY Covershot.” This is when you don’t have a photog handy, but still want to have an eye-catching listing.
Posh Tip: Make sure you have decent lighting and be sure to angle your iPhone just enough so that you can get a good shot of what you’re trying to sell. Here are some great examples of some DIYs:
3) Lastly, the “Stylist Covershot”. This is when you want to do a listing, but don’t have the energy to put the item on. (C’mon, we’re all guilty of being a bit lazy sometimes!) We were hesitant about this type of Covershot at first, but we’ve seen some really awesome outfits put together, and guess what? Items sell! We’re finding that giving some style inspiration to the Covershot is super helpful to those shopping.
Posh Tip: Keep it simple. We find that when there are too many pieces in the Covershot, it can be distracting and actually take away from what you’re trying to highlight. Here are some great examples of some Stylist Covershots:
